The Route

This map is one that was drawn months ago, very roughly, when the trip was just an idea.  It is laughably way off from the actual route which we will take!  If only it would have been this straight forward! The original philosophy was just to try and follow roughly the most direct route. However, the complete impossibility of obtaining overland visas for Myanmar meant that ‘the long way’ through China became necessary.

There are obviously a few alternatives, such as shipping from India to Singapore, but that seemed a little bit like cheating and as much as possible we are trying to drive.
We do now have a much firmer idea of the planned route and the map below is a work in progress. No matter how well we plan, it’s still pretty unlikely that we’ll be able to stick to the exact route!

The list of countries in order, will roughly be:

England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, East Timor, Australia.

Some of these countries are still open to potential change, particularly in Western Europe where visas are not a hassle and we might change our minds.  From Turkey onwards however, the route and schedule is fairly definite as we need to plan in advance our entry and exit from China.
